In April 2025, a team of visionary students from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana, guided by their mentor, Professor Samuel Kofi Tulashie, achieved a remarkable feat by winning the prestigious Africa Business Concept Challenge (ABCC) organized by the Global Business School Network (GBSN). Guided by their faculty mentor, Prof. Samuel Kofi Tulashie, the team comprising of Enoch Mbawin Alale (team captain), Agnes Joy Aryee, and Simon Etornam Felitse emerged as the first-place winners among 84 student teams representing 46 schools across 19 countries.

The triumphant team, named EMONJOY, comprised Enoch Mbawin Alale (team captain), Agnes Joy Aryee, and Simon Etornam Felitse. Their innovative project centred on developing a 100% plant-based, biodegradable pesticide derived from neem and local plant extracts. This solution aimed to address the significant challenge faced by West African farmers crop losses of up to 60% annually due to pests while mitigating the health and environmental hazards associated with synthetic pesticides.

Under Professor Tulashie's mentorship, the team not only crafted a viable business concept but also aligned their solution with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on health, clean water, responsible production, and environmental protection. Their approach promised to enhance soil health, increase crop yields, and open access to premium markets for smallholder farmers. The project planned a phased rollout, beginning with pilot testing in Ghana and aiming for expansion across West Africa.

Professor Tulashie's guidance was instrumental in the team's success. As the Ag. Vice-Dean of the School of Sustainable Engineering at UCC, he brought a wealth of experience and a commitment to sustainable innovation. His mentorship not only provided technical expertise but also inspired the team to pursue solutions with a profound social and environmental impact.

The victory of Team EMONJOY at the ABCC 2025 stands as a testament to the power of mentorship, innovation, and the drive to create solutions that resonate with local needs while contributing to global sustainability goals.

In 2025, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship through the outstanding performance of its student teams in the Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC) AgriTech Challenge. Under the mentorship of Professor Samuel Kofi Tulashie, Head of Department for the Department of Chemical and Renewable Energy Engineering, UCC team EMONJOY; the team comprising of Enoch Mbawin Alale (Team Lead), Agnes Joy Aryee, and Simon Etornam Felitse showcased groundbreaking solutions aimed at transforming Ghana's agricultural sector.
